If a schapendoes coould talk...
Its dream is "agility", a booming discipline for which it's build for. Its dynamism, its jumping ability, its energy and its big joy for playing make the shapendoes perfectly suited for this discipline.
Dog agility can't be considered a sport, it's a game. It allows to spend time with your dog breaking the monotony of walks and fostering a tie based on harmony, enjoyment and mutual respect between dog and owner.
Agility was born in England as derivation of equestrian competition tests. This discipline consists in making the dog performing a path littered with various types of obstacles. Its playful and spectacular appearance has quickly conquered the hearts of dog lovers that are increasingly approaching this activity.
It can be done by anyone, including children and elderly, but to achieve results it is necessary the dog to be attentive to the owner's orders, well educated and well balanced. It is therefore necessary to start with the basics of education: walking on the leash, sitting, lay down. Once these basic orders have been acquired the dog can become acquainted with the various obstacles: hedge, board, gangway, tunnel, wall, slalom.
For a better complicity the conductor must be enthusiastic and understanding, remembering that who works is not only the dog and discovering that agility requires speed, precision, concentration. But not to the dog: to the conductor!
Above all it's important to remember that this activity, even if done at a competitive level, remains a game.
Dog lovers, beware: the enthusiasm of the "agilists" is contagious!
